Intro to Ashtanga Yoga Two-Hour Course with Rachel Dyer
Join us for a two-hour beginner’s course to learn the basics of Ashtanga Yoga!
Students will be introduced to Mysore-style yoga, guided through the beginning sequences of postures, briefly discuss philosophy, and learn the basic technique for syncing breath, movement, and gaze.
Tuition includes one month — starting Monday, April 15, 2024 — of unlimited access to all classes at Ashtanga Yoga Bridgeport.
Please bring a yoga mat if you have one (we have some you can borrow if you don’t have one), something comfortable to sit on (i.e., pillow, bolster, or meditation cushion), something to drink, and, if desired, a pen/pencil and paper/journal for note-taking (or your Notes app).

A Weekend with Taylor Hunt January 2024
Taylor Hunt is a devoted practitioner and teacher of Ashtanga Yoga. He makes yearly trips to Mysore, India to study under the guidance of his teacher, R. Sharath Jois. In 2013, Taylor was granted Level 2 Authorization to teach and has had the honor of assisting Sharath on several occasions. Taylor is dedicated to sharing the healing practice with others and providing a community where practitioners can find support in their practice and daily lives. Seeking to preserve the traditional method, Taylor teaches daily Mysore classes at Ashtanga Yoga Columbus and Ashtanga Yoga Savannah and offers workshops around the world. He is also the author of A Way From Darkness and director of the Trini Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing the life-changing practice of Ashtanga with those suffering from addiction. He continues to inspire others through his story of personal transformation and accessible approach to the practice.

This is an interactive discussion on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The Sutras are regarded as the authoritative text on yoga, outlining the eight limbs and offering guidelines for living a meaningful and purposeful life. Learn how these threads of wisdom are relevant today and how to apply them into your life. Join Taylor as he shares insights gained from many years of study with Vedic scholar, Sree Aswath.

Led Primary Series Class & Introduction to Pranayama
Full led Primary Series class using the traditional Sanskrit count followed by a brief introduction to pranayama. The control of prana or energy is known as pranayama, which helps the practitioner to better understand the breath and aids in the regulation of mind and body.

Exploring Backbends
Backbends are a wonderful way to strengthen the back and balance the body after the many forward folds of the Primary Series. Learn proper alignment and technique to safely approach back bending. We will explore a diverse collection of backbends from the Primary and Second series designed to open the front of the body and realign the spine. This is a fun and challenging workshop for all levels of practitioners.

Arm Balances: Learn to Fly
Join Taylor for a fun and interactive workshop exploring arm balances from the Second and Third series. We will begin with a breakdown of the structural components, including shoulder position and stability, necessary to safely approach the transitions of the Primary Series. Then, start to take flight with the Second and Third series arm balances. By understanding the mechanics, students can learn how to safely approach these challenging postures with integrity.

Foundations: Clean it Up
In this workshop, we will take an in-depth look at the Ashtanga Yoga method while discussing Surya Namaskara and the standing poses of the Primary Series. These poses play an integral role in beginning the process of purification, realigning the skeletal system, and toning the leg muscles. We will spend ample time exploring proper alignment and techniques to work through restricted movements. This workshop is appropriate for all levels of practitioners.

Jump Back and Jump Through with Zach Dyer
The jump back and jump through are efficient yet challenging transitions in the Ashtanga practice. In this workshop, students will learn and refine technique for both the jump back and jump through and leave with several tried and true drills to practice. All levels of practitioner are welcome.
This workshop will be held in-person at Ashtanga Yoga Bridgeport and live-streamed for those who wish to attend virtually. A Zoom link will be emailed to you upon registration.

One-Month Ashtanga Yoga Half-Primary Course With Zach Dyer and Cindy Dyer
This course is all about learning proper technique for each posture and transition in the Ashtanga Yoga Half-Primary Series.
This course is geared towards beginners with no to a few months of experience with yoga or Ashtanga Yoga; however, all levels of practitioner are more than welcome to attend.
Students can expect to learn the following and more:
Various options, adaptations, and safe technique for every posture up through navasana, as well as for backbends and closing postures;
Transitions and drills for transitions, including chakrasana, and especially the jump through and jump back; and
The Sanskrit vinyasa count for at least sun salutations.
This course will be held in-person and live-streamed via Zoom every Monday (1, 8, 15, 22, 29) in May 2023 from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. A Zoom link will be emailed to you upon registration if you wish to join virtually.

Little One & Me Yoga Animals-Themed Donation-Based Class Benefitting the Trini Foundation
Join Rachel and Zoe (3.5 years) and Zach and Elle (8 months) for a half-hour, animals-themed yoga practice integrating a simple, calming breathing practice that both little ones and adults can take away.
All proceeds benefit the Trini Foundation. The Trini Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people with substance use disorders find long-term recovery by building environments of physical, mental, and spiritual support through integrating recovery services with Ashtanga Yoga and mindfulness practices. Ashtanga Yoga Bridgeport is proud to be a partner studio of the Trini Foundation.
