Etiquette

All are welcome at Ashtanga Yoga Bridgeport.

Yoga Mats

If you have a mat, we kindly ask that you please it. We have a few extra you can borrow in case you forget. Your mat is the only gear you need, though you may also want to bring a small hand towel and eventually a Mysore rug.

Food, Drink, and Cleanliness

Please be sure you are well-hydrated prior to practice, and drink plenty of water afterwards. Usually, students do not drink water during the practice, though there are exceptions, and if you need a drink, get one.

Ordinarily, students do not eat at least two hours prior to practicing.

Cleanliness is yoga. Please ensure that you and your gear are clean, and we kindly ask that you refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, and scented lotion, as our space is an intimate one, about 500 square feet.

The Practice

As we are inspired by Ashtanga Yoga in the tradition of Sharath Jois, we ask that you please follow the sequences and series as best as you can, and please do not take any new postures until given by or agreed upon with your teacher. You do not need to know any of the sequence at all prior to starting.

Teachers give physical assists/adjustments during Ashtanga Yoga classes. If you are uncomfortable with an adjustment or do not want adjustments at all, please let your teacher know. We will not ask questions as to why you do not want adjustments.

Please try to come at least three days per week. Consistent practice is the best teacher.
